**Orphnaecus philippinus**, commonly known as the **Philippine Tangerine Tarantula**, is a striking Old World tarantula endemic to the Philippines. It is famous for its vivid orange coloration, which extends across the carapace, abdomen, and legs, giving the species its distinctive tangerine appearance.

This is a fossorial species that constructs deep, silk-lined burrows in humid soil. Despite its burrowing lifestyle, it may occasionally spend time outside its burrow, especially around its extensive webbing. Its slender body and long legs are well adapted for rapid movement and burrowing.

Adults can reach approximately 6–8 cm in body length, with females being larger than males. The species has relatively short body hairs, giving it a smooth, almost velvety appearance.

Orphnaecus philippinus is generally shy and defensive rather than confrontational. When disturbed, it is more likely to retreat rapidly into its burrow, although its speed and defensive nature make it unsuitable for inexperienced keepers.

As an Old World tarantula, it does not possess urticating hairs. It prefers warm, humid conditions with moist but well-drained substrate.
