**Banded Leaf-toed Gecko (*Hemidactylus fasciatus*)** The Banded Leaf-toed Gecko (*Hemidactylus fasciatus*) is a distinctive West African forest gecko known for its striking dark transverse bands and active climbing behavior. It is a relatively uncommon species in the international reptile trade and is particularly attractive to keepers interested in unusual African geckos. **Common Name:** Banded Leaf-toed Gecko **Distribution:** West Africa, including Guinea, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Togo. Historical and regional records have also associated the species with Cameroon, although current taxonomic databases restrict the confirmed distribution and locality information should be verified for wild-caught specimens. **Habitat:** Tropical forests, forest edges, secondary woodland, rocky areas, and walls around human settlements. The species is associated with warm and humid environments. **Size:** Approximately 5–7 cm snout-to-vent length, with adults reaching roughly 10 cm in total length. **Lifestyle:** Primarily nocturnal and semi-arboreal. Individuals are active climbers and may be observed on tree trunks, rocks, walls, and other vertical surfaces at night. **Diet:** Insectivorous. Suitable prey includes appropriately sized crickets, roaches, flies, moths, and other small insects. **Appearance:** The species has a grayish to brownish body with distinctive dark transverse or U-shaped bands across the back. The dorsal surface is covered with fine granular scales and scattered small tubercles, giving the animal a textured appearance. **Origin:** Wild-Caught (WC). **Difficulty:** Intermediate. A vertically oriented enclosure with branches, cork bark, climbing surfaces, hiding places, good ventilation, and moderate to high humidity is recommended. **Special Feature:** Its bold banded pattern and relatively uncommon availability make it an appealing species for collectors of African forest geckos. **Taxonomic Note:** *Hemidactylus fasciatus* has a complicated taxonomic history. Several West African populations formerly included within a broad concept of *H. fasciatus* have since been recognized as separate species. Locality information is therefore particularly important when documenting wild-caught specimens.
