**Cophoscincopus durus** **Common Name:** Keeled Water Skink *Cophoscincopus durus* is a small and highly unusual West African skink closely associated with freshwater habitats. It inhabits forest streams and other moist environments, particularly around flowing water in the Upper Guinean rainforest region. This species is semi-aquatic and is well adapted to life around streams. It has a compact body, relatively short limbs, and strongly keeled body scales that give it a distinctive textured appearance. It is primarily diurnal and may forage along stream margins for small arthropods. One of the most remarkable features of *Cophoscincopus durus* is its swimming ability. When moving underwater, it can streamline its body and use lateral undulations to move through the water, making it one of the more specialized aquatic-associated skinks. The species is distributed across southern Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Côte d’Ivoire. It is relatively small, with a maximum snout-to-vent length of approximately 52 mm. *Cophoscincopus durus* is uncommon in the international reptile trade and is particularly interesting for keepers interested in unusual African skinks and semi-aquatic reptiles. **Distribution:** Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire **Habitat:** Forest streams, flowing water, and humid rainforest environments **Activity:** Diurnal **Lifestyle:** Semi-aquatic **Diet:** Small arthropods and other invertebrates **Reproduction:** Oviparous **Adult Size:** Up to approximately 52 mm SVL
