It is renowned for its intense scarlet-red plumage, contrasting blue markings, and energetic personality, making it one of the most striking lories of the Australasian region. Adults are predominantly vivid scarlet-red, with blue to violet markings around the eyes, wings, and lower body. The wings and back are accented with darker red and blue coloration, while the bill is bright orange.
