**Hylobates albibarbis** **Common Name:** Bornean White-bearded Gibbon The Bornean White-bearded Gibbon (*Hylobates albibarbis*) is a small, agile ape endemic to the island of Borneo. It has a slender body, extremely long arms, and a dense coat that is generally dark brown to blackish, with distinctive pale or whitish fur around the cheeks and chin. Like other gibbons, it is highly adapted to life in the forest canopy. This species moves through the treetops primarily by brachiation, swinging from branch to branch using its long arms. Its lightweight body, powerful hands, and flexible shoulder joints allow it to travel rapidly through the canopy while rarely descending to the ground. Bornean White-bearded Gibbons feed mainly on fruits and leaves, supplemented by flowers, shoots, and other plant material. Their preference for fruit makes them important seed dispersers within the tropical forests they inhabit. They typically live in small family groups consisting of an adult pair and their offspring. Vocal communication plays an important role in maintaining family bonds and defending territories, with coordinated calls carrying through the forest canopy. The Bornean White-bearded Gibbon is closely associated with the remaining forests of Borneo and is particularly dependent on mature, connected forest habitat. Habitat loss and fragmentation pose significant threats to its long-term survival. Its remarkable agility, distinctive appearance, and complex social behavior make it an important member of Borneo's primate fauna. **Scientific Name:** *Hylobates albibarbis* **Family:** Hylobatidae **Common Name:** Bornean White-bearded Gibbon **Distribution:** Borneo, Indonesia **Habitat:** Tropical rainforests, peat swamp forests, and other mature forest habitats
