**Hairy Frog (*Astylosternus robustus*)** The Hairy Frog is a remarkable West and Central African frog, famous for its unusual name and distinctive biology. It was historically classified under the genus *Trichobatrachus* as *Trichobatrachus robustus*, but is currently recognized as *Astylosternus robustus*. This species is distributed across parts of southeastern Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and northern Angola. It inhabits humid tropical forest environments and is associated with streams and other moist habitats. The Hairy Frog belongs to the family Arthroleptidae. Its most famous feature is the development of distinctive hair-like structures along the body and hind limbs of breeding males, which increase the surface area available for cutaneous respiration while the frogs are active in oxygen-rich streams. The species is primarily nocturnal and is strongly associated with humid forest habitats. Its unusual appearance, specialized biology, and restricted African distribution make it a particularly interesting species for experienced amphibian keepers and collectors. **Scientific Name:** *Astylosternus robustus* **Former Name:** *Trichobatrachus robustus* **Common Name:** Hairy Frog **Family:** Arthroleptidae **Origin:** West and Central Africa **Distribution:** Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, DRC and northern Angola **Habitat:** Humid tropical forests and stream environments **Activity:** Primarily nocturnal
