**Meranoplus bicolor** is a small and distinctive Asian ant species known for its unusual shield-like body structure and striking two-tone coloration. The head, thorax, petiole, and postpetiole are generally reddish brown to ferruginous, while the gaster is dark brown to black. Workers are approximately 4 mm in length and are covered with fine hairs, giving the colony a distinctive textured appearance. Unlike many highly polymorphic ants, workers of the genus *Meranoplus* are generally relatively uniform in size. This species is widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia, including Thailand, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. In Thailand, it has been recorded from a variety of habitats including mixed deciduous forests, agricultural areas, rice paddies, and other open environments. *Meranoplus bicolor* typically nests in soil, often near the base of plants, and workers forage both on the ground and on vegetation. They may visit extrafloral nectaries and associate with aphids for honeydew. Its compact size, unusual body shape, dense hairs, and contrasting reddish-brown and dark coloration make it an interesting species for collectors looking for a less common Asian ant. **Species:** Meranoplus bicolor **Common Name:** Shield Ant **Distribution:** South & Southeast Asia **Habitat:** Forests, grasslands & agricultural areas **Worker Size:** Approximately 4 mm **Nest Type:** Soil-nesting
