**Anthracoceros albirostris** **Common Name:** Oriental Pied Hornbill The Oriental Pied Hornbill (*Anthracoceros albirostris*) is a distinctive and widespread hornbill of South and Southeast Asia. It is recognized for its contrasting black-and-white plumage, prominent pale bill, and characteristic casque above the bill. Adults have predominantly black plumage with a white belly, white wing markings, and a broad white band across the tail. The large bill is pale ivory to yellowish in color, while the casque is relatively small compared with those of larger hornbill species. Males and females can be distinguished by subtle differences in bill and casque coloration. The Oriental Pied Hornbill inhabits a variety of forested environments, including lowland tropical forests, secondary woodland, mangroves, and cultivated landscapes with suitable trees. It is an adaptable species and can sometimes be observed near human settlements. Its diet consists mainly of fruits and insects, supplemented by small reptiles, amphibians, and other animal prey. During the breeding season, the female seals herself inside a natural tree cavity, leaving a narrow opening through which the male delivers food. This remarkable nesting strategy protects the female and developing chicks from predators. With its bold black-and-white plumage, distinctive bill and casque, adaptable nature, and fascinating breeding behavior, the Oriental Pied Hornbill is one of the most recognizable hornbills of the Asian tropics. **Scientific Name:** *Anthracoceros albirostris* **Family:** Bucerotidae **Common Name:** Oriental Pied Hornbill **Distribution:** South and Southeast Asia **Habitat:** Tropical and subtropical forests, woodland, mangroves, and cultivated landscapes
