**Pseudoneoponera rufipes** is a large and distinctive ponerine ant native to South and Southeast Asia. It is also commonly encountered under its former name, **Pachycondyla rufipes**. Workers are large, measuring approximately 13–16 mm, while queens can reach around 16–17 mm. The body is predominantly black, with reddish-brown mandibles, antennae, legs, and the rear segments of the gaster, creating a striking contrast. One of the most fascinating characteristics of this species is its unusual defensive behavior. When threatened, workers can produce a sticky white secretion that forms a thread-like or foam-like substance. This secretion can help deter predators and interfere with attackers. Pseudoneoponera rufipes is an active predatory species. Workers hunt small insects and other arthropods, while the colony can also be provided with carbohydrate sources such as honey water. Colonies are generally relatively compact, with several dozen to a few hundred workers. The species occurs from India through mainland Southeast Asia to southern China, including Thailand. It nests in soil and beneath dead wood and does not require hibernation.
