**Buceros rhinoceros** **Common Name:** Rhinoceros Hornbill The Rhinoceros Hornbill (*Buceros rhinoceros*) is one of the largest and most spectacular hornbills in Southeast Asia. Native to the tropical forests of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo, it is renowned for its enormous curved bill, striking casque, and vivid black, white, red, and yellow coloration. Adults are characterized by predominantly black plumage, a large ivory-colored bill, and a prominent yellow-and-red casque rising above the upper bill. The tail is mostly white with a broad black band, while the bare skin around the eyes and throat can display vivid colors. The casque is an impressive ornamental structure and is thought to play a role in visual communication and species recognition. Rhinoceros Hornbills primarily inhabit lowland tropical rainforests, where they spend much of their time in the forest canopy. Their diet consists mainly of fruits, particularly figs, along with insects, small vertebrates, and other animal matter. Like other hornbills, they have a remarkable breeding behavior in which the female seals herself inside a natural tree cavity, leaving only a narrow opening through which the male provides food to her and the chicks. With its enormous bill, distinctive casque, striking plumage, and remarkable nesting behavior, the Rhinoceros Hornbill is one of the most iconic and visually impressive birds of the Southeast Asian rainforest. **Scientific Name:** *Buceros rhinoceros* **Family:** Bucerotidae **Common Name:** Rhinoceros Hornbill **Distribution:** Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo **Habitat:** Lowland tropical rainforest
