The Miyashita's Stag Beetle (Prismognathus miyashitai) is a rare and highly distinctive species of stag beetle native to mountainous regions of East and Southeast Asia. The species is particularly associated with northern Vietnam, with additional populations occurring in northern Myanmar, southwestern China, Tibet, and parts of northeastern India. This species is notable for its relatively small size and distinctive male mandibles. Northern Vietnamese populations represent the nominate form and are characterized by compact body proportions and strongly developed mandibles. Regional variation in mandible shape and body morphology is known across its distribution. The species appears to be associated with higher-elevation environments and localized mountain habitats. Its geographically fragmented distribution has resulted in considerable variation between populations, making locality information particularly important for collectors and taxonomic study. Vietnamese specimens are especially desirable among collectors because they are rarely encountered in the international hobby. Recent Wild specimens from Yen Bai Province, Vietnam, have been offered in pairs, demonstrating the continued rarity of this species in the captive-insect market.
