**Shark-mouthed Caecilian (*Herpele squalostoma*)** The Shark-mouthed Caecilian is a fascinating and highly unusual limbless amphibian in the family Herpelidae. Native to Central and West-Central Africa, it is known from Cameroon and neighboring regions of the Congo Basin. Despite its snake- or worm-like appearance, *Herpele squalostoma* is a true amphibian. It is primarily fossorial, spending much of its life underground in moist soil and leaf litter, where its streamlined body and reduced limbs allow it to move efficiently through the substrate. The species has a robust cylindrical body, small eyes, and a distinctive rounded head adapted to a burrowing lifestyle. Its secretive nature and unusual appearance make it a particularly interesting species for specialist amphibian keepers and collectors. **Scientific Name:** *Herpele squalostoma* **Common Name:** Shark-mouthed Caecilian **Family:** Herpelidae **Distribution:** Central and West-Central Africa, including Cameroon **Habitat:** Moist forest soil, leaf litter, and underground environments **Lifestyle:** Fossorial and terrestrial **Type:** Caecilian / Limbless amphibian A rare and unusual African amphibian, ideal for specialist collections and keepers interested in unique, lesser-known species.
