The Vietnamese Antaeus Stag Beetle is a large and impressive species of stag beetle native to the mountainous regions of mainland Southeast Asia. In Vietnam, it is known from several mountainous areas, including northern regions such as Cao Bang, Lao Cai, and Lai Chau. Males are characterized by their thick, powerful mandibles and broad, heavy bodies. Vietnamese populations are generally regarded as part of the Indochinese form, often associated with *Dorcus antaeus miyashitai*. Compared with Himalayan populations, Indochinese individuals tend to have strongly curved mandibles and a more compact, robust appearance. The species typically inhabits cool, humid mountainous forests and is associated with higher elevations. Adults are long-lived for a beetle, with an adult lifespan of around two to three years. Vietnamese Antaeus are particularly attractive to collectors because of their locality-specific variation. Individuals from areas such as Cao Bang and Lai Chau can differ noticeably in body proportions, mandible shape, and overall appearance. **Important:** *Dorcus antaeus* is currently listed as Vulnerable (VU) in Vietnam's 2024 Red Data Book. Any collection, import, export, or trade should therefore be conducted only with the appropriate permits and in compliance with applicable wildlife regulations.
