**Dendrolagus inustus** **Common Name:** Vogelkop Tree-kangaroo The Vogelkop Tree-kangaroo (*Dendrolagus inustus*) is a large and distinctive arboreal marsupial native to the forests of New Guinea. It has a robust body, powerful forelimbs, broad hind feet, and a long, thick tail that helps provide balance while climbing. Its predominantly grayish-brown coat contrasts with a paler underside, giving the species its characteristic appearance. Highly adapted to life in the trees, the Vogelkop Tree-kangaroo uses its strong limbs and flexible joints to climb tree trunks and move among branches. Although it is an accomplished climber, it can also travel on the ground when necessary, using its powerful hind limbs and tail for support and balance. It inhabits tropical lowland and montane forests, where it feeds mainly on leaves, fruits, flowers, and other plant material. Like other tree-kangaroos, it plays an important role as a browser and fruit consumer within the forest ecosystem. Generally solitary and elusive, the Vogelkop Tree-kangaroo spends much of its time in the forest canopy and dense vegetation. Its combination of a kangaroo-like body plan and highly specialized arboreal adaptations makes it one of the most distinctive mammals of New Guinea. **Scientific Name:** *Dendrolagus inustus* **Family:** Macropodidae **Common Name:** Vogelkop Tree-kangaroo **Distribution:** New Guinea **Habitat:** Tropical lowland and montane forests
