**Giant Jumping Ant / Harpegnathos venator** Harpegnathos venator is a striking predatory ant native to tropical Asia. It is famous for its large forward-facing eyes, elongated body, powerful mandibles, and remarkable jumping ability. Workers are highly active hunters and primarily prey on insects. They use their powerful mandibles and functional sting to subdue prey, making this species particularly fascinating to observe during hunting and foraging. Queens can reach approximately 15–22 mm, while workers are around 14–20 mm. Colonies can grow to several hundred workers under suitable conditions. Harpegnathos venator is also notable for its unusual reproductive biology. In addition to queens, certain workers can potentially develop reproductive function under specific colony conditions. This is an active and visually impressive species, especially suited to keepers interested in large predatory ants and naturalistic hunting behavior.
