**Cophoscincopus simulans** **Common Name:** Keeled Water Skink *Cophoscincopus simulans* is a small and unusual skink from West Africa, well known for its strong association with moist habitats and forest streams. It is a secretive species that spends much of its time close to water, making it particularly interesting for keepers of semi-aquatic lizards. The species has an elongated body, short limbs, and distinctly keeled dorsal scales. Its dark coloration provides effective camouflage among wet rocks, leaf litter, and streamside vegetation. *Cophoscincopus simulans* is primarily diurnal and is closely associated with humid forest environments, particularly small streams, creeks, and wet areas along forest margins. It is an active and alert skink that may frequently explore both land and shallow water. Its known range includes several countries in West Africa, including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Togo, and surrounding regions. Due to its unusual semi-aquatic lifestyle and limited availability in the international reptile trade, *Cophoscincopus simulans* is considered an uncommon and highly interesting species for experienced reptile keepers. **Scientific Name:** *Cophoscincopus simulans* **Family:** Scincidae **Distribution:** West Africa **Habitat:** Humid forests, streams, creeks, and wet forest margins **Activity:** Diurnal **Lifestyle:** Terrestrial and semi-aquatic **Availability:** Uncommon in the reptile trade
