**Agama sankaranica** **Common Name:** Senegal Agama *Agama sankaranica* is a relatively small and distinctive agamid lizard native to West Africa. It is an active, diurnal species that is generally associated with open habitats, savanna, rocky areas, and forest-edge environments. Compared with many larger *Agama* species, *A. sankaranica* is notably smaller in build. Adult males can develop attractive contrasting coloration, particularly around the head and throat, while females and juveniles are generally more cryptically colored. This species is primarily terrestrial but is an active climber and makes use of rocks, branches, and other elevated surfaces for basking and observation. Like other *Agama*, it is diurnal and relies heavily on visual communication and basking behavior. The diet consists mainly of **insects and other small invertebrates**, including crickets, roaches, grasshoppers, and other appropriately sized feeder insects. A varied diet supplemented with calcium and vitamins is recommended in captivity. As an active African agamid, *A. sankaranica* benefits from a **spacious, well-ventilated enclosure with strong UVB lighting, a high-temperature basking area, and a cooler zone for thermoregulation**. Multiple rocks, branches, and hiding areas can provide useful structure and enrichment. **Distribution:** West Africa, including Guinea, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Mali, Senegal, Niger, and reported records from Cameroon. The species' distribution should be interpreted with some caution because taxonomy and identification within the *Agama* genus have undergone considerable revision. **Reproduction:** Oviparous **Origin:** Cameroon locality **Type:** Primarily wild-caught in the current international trade **Difficulty:** Intermediate to Advanced
