**Red-breasted Tree Ant / Tetraponera rufonigra** Tetraponera rufonigra is a striking arboreal ant native to South and Southeast Asia. It is easily recognized by its contrasting dark head and abdomen with a reddish-brown thorax and petiole. This species is primarily arboreal and typically nests inside cavities in living or dead branches and stems. Workers are highly active during the day and actively forage along vegetation for food. Colonies can contain multiple queens and may grow to several hundred workers. The species is omnivorous, feeding on sugary liquids as well as insect prey. Workers are relatively large, around 10–12 mm, while queens can reach approximately 12–16 mm. They are equipped with a functional sting and can be defensive, so careful handling is recommended. A visually impressive species with a distinctive red-and-black appearance, active behavior, and true arboreal nesting habits, making it a standout species for experienced ant keepers.
