**Meizodon coronatus** **Common names:** Western Crowned Snake, Coroneted Smooth Snake **Family:** Colubridae **Distribution:** West and Central Africa, including Cameroon **Lifestyle:** Primarily terrestrial **Habitat:** Savanna, forest-savanna mosaics, grasslands, and humid lowland areas **Reproduction:** Oviparous **Adult size:** Approximately 35–65 cm *Meizodon coronatus* is a relatively uncommon African colubrid known for the distinctive dark markings on its head and neck, which give the species its characteristic "crowned" appearance. The body is generally slender, with a smooth-scaled appearance and subtle grayish or brownish coloration. In Cameroon, this species has been recorded from savanna-forest mosaics, western highlands, the Adamawa highlands, and Sudanian savanna habitats. It is primarily terrestrial and is associated with relatively dry savanna environments as well as low-lying moist areas. The Western Crowned Snake is not frequently encountered throughout its range and remains uncommon in the captive trade. Its relatively small adult size, unusual head pattern, and rarity make it an interesting species for keepers and collectors specializing in African colubrids. **Notable features:** Distinctive crowned head markings, slender body, smooth scales, relatively small adult size, terrestrial lifestyle, and uncommon availability in captivity.
