**Scientific Name:** *Chamaesaura macrolepis*
**Common Name:** Large-scale Snake Lizard
**Japanese Name:** シャマサウラ・マクロレピス
**Family:** Cordylidae

*Chamaesaura macrolepis*, commonly known as the Large-scale Snake Lizard, is an unusual, elongated lizard native to southern Africa. Its slender, snake-like body and greatly reduced limbs give it a distinctive appearance, representing a remarkable adaptation to life among dense grasses and low vegetation.

The body is long and narrow, covered in overlapping scales, with a particularly elongated tail that makes up a substantial portion of its total length. Its coloration is generally brownish, grayish, or olive-toned, often helping it blend into grassy surroundings. Unlike true snakes, it retains small limbs, although these are greatly reduced.

This species is associated with grasslands and other open habitats with dense ground vegetation. It moves through grass and low plants with sinuous, snake-like movements and feeds primarily on insects and other small invertebrates.

**Distribution:** Southern Africa
**Habitat:** Grasslands and areas with dense ground vegetation
**Diet:** Insects and other small invertebrates
**Behavior:** Elongated, ground-dwelling lizard adapted to moving through grass

**Family:** Varanidae
**Type:** Monitor Lizard Pair
**Quantity:** 1 Pair (Male + Female)

*Varanus albigularis*, commonly known as the African Rock Monitor, is a large and powerful monitor lizard native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is recognized for its robust body, strong limbs, muscular tail, and distinctive mottled coloration.

Its body is typically grayish-brown to dark brown, with pale markings and darker bands across the back and tail. The head is broad, the neck is thick, and the strong limbs are equipped with sharp claws that assist with digging and climbing. Adults develop a substantial build, making this species one of the most impressive African monitors.

African Rock Monitors inhabit a variety of environments, including savannas, rocky landscapes, open woodlands, and scrublands. They are primarily terrestrial and often shelter in burrows or rock crevices. Their diet is varied and may include insects, snails, other invertebrates, small vertebrates, and carrion.

This species is an active, intelligent reptile with powerful jaws and claws. Its large adult size and specialized husbandry requirements make adequate space, secure enclosures, and experienced care essential.

**Scientific Name:** *Pelusios bechuanicus*
**Common Names:** Okavango Mud Turtle, Okavango Terrapin
**Japanese Name:** オカバンゴハコヨコクビガメ
**Family:** Pelomedusidae
**Type:** Turtle Pair
**Quantity:** 1 Pair (Male + Female)

*Pelusios bechuanicus*, commonly known as the Okavango Mud Turtle, is an aquatic turtle native to southern Africa. It belongs to the side-necked turtle family, characterized by the distinctive way its members bend their necks sideways beneath the edge of the shell rather than retracting them straight back.

This species typically has an oval, moderately flattened carapace with brown to olive coloration. Its head and limbs are adapted to an aquatic lifestyle, while its relatively understated appearance helps it blend into muddy water and natural wetland surroundings.

The Okavango Mud Turtle inhabits freshwater environments, including rivers, marshes, floodplains, and seasonal wetlands. It is associated with the Okavango Basin, where fluctuating water levels shape its habitat. Like other mud turtles, it is primarily aquatic and can make use of shallow, vegetated areas for shelter and foraging.

Its diet consists of a variety of aquatic invertebrates and other small animal matter, as well as additional food items available in its environment.

**Distribution:** Southern Africa, particularly the Okavango Basin
**Habitat:** Freshwater rivers, marshes, floodplains, and seasonal wetlands
**Diet:** Aquatic invertebrates and other small animal matter
**Behavior:** Primarily aquatic; a side-necked turtle

**Scientific Name:** *Stigmochelys pardalis*
**Common Name:** Leopard Tortoise
**Japanese Name:** ヒョウモンリクガメ
**Family:** Testudinidae
**Type:** Tortoise Pair
**Quantity:** 1 Pair (Male + Female)

*Stigmochelys pardalis*, commonly known as the Leopard Tortoise, is a large and attractive tortoise native to eastern and southern Africa. It is named for the distinctive dark markings on its high-domed shell, which form a spotted pattern reminiscent of a leopard's coat.

The carapace is typically yellow to tan, decorated with dark brown or black spots and blotches. The head and limbs are generally tan to brown, with sturdy, scaly legs adapted for walking across open terrain. The shell pattern varies among individuals and may become less sharply defined with age.

Leopard Tortoises inhabit savannas, grasslands, scrublands, and other relatively dry environments. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on grasses, leafy plants, and other vegetation. Their grazing habits contribute to the movement of plant material and seeds through their habitat.

This species is known for its impressive longevity and substantial adult size. Proper care requires adequate space, appropriate temperatures, UVB lighting, and a suitable high-fiber diet.

**Distribution:** Eastern and southern Africa
**Habitat:** Savannas, grasslands, scrublands, and open woodland
**Diet:** Primarily grasses, leaves, and other plant material
**Behavior:** Primarily terrestrial; active mainly during suitable daytime conditions
**Conservation Status:** Listed in CITES Appendix II; international trade is regulated
